Chinese translation:
Explanation:
My education background is actually business, and because when I searched online I saw "Dog fund" being compared with the opposite "Star fund" and all of sudden it became to make sense to me as such. I think to offer the top quality translation it is alway good to dig to the bottom of the meaning of the words, terms and context. That's what I am offering you here.

I believe the origin of the term "Dog fund" has direct link to a famous business/marketing investment theory/diagram, first created by the Boston Consulting Group, a worldly management consulting firm. It is called the "BCG Growth-Share Matrix". To make the long explanation short, the matrix has four cells, divided by two axis each represents Market Growth Rate and Relative Market Share, respectively. Detail please see the web reference. Basically it most favouriable cell for a investment fund, business unit or consumer product to fall in is the Star cell. The worst - you guessed it - it's the Dog cell. Any units/funds/products catagorized as "Dog" are generally advised to be considered for liquidation options. Dogs don't need much to take of, but they also don't bring much in (as supposed to Cash Cows that you can milk!)

So if you don't like my Chinese term listed above, I hope at least the information on the BCG Growth-Share Matrix could be of use to you. Ta Ta.

neutral  angielin: I've never heard of this but I could be wrong. I've heard of 垃圾債券 junk bond & it describes a specific class of bonds, based on a standardized bond rating system. I think "dog fund" is a less standardized figure of speech so I don't object your opini

Explanation:

disagree  Ying HUANG: we should look at the contexte. Here it is talking about the stocks, not really the "dog"
