他的国籍/民族 Explanation: there are two possibilities for this term: first, if the term is used to ask which country he was born in or where he comes from, then 他的国籍? [ta de guo ji] applies. second, if this term is used to ask his ethnic property, then 他的民族?[wb ta de min zu]applies. in chinese, nationality usually refers to the latter meaning. |

他的民族认同 or 他的国家认同 Explanation: These are not exact translations but explanations, because the word 'nationality', unlike the word 'citizenship', is somehow subjective. For example, a person was born in China, and is a citizen of US now. If he/she were asked "what is your nationality?' The answer could be either 'American' or 'Chinese' depend on how is he/she idendify hiself/herself. Or if a person living in Taiwan (a citizen of Republic of China) were asked the same question, you might get three possible answers: 'Chinese', 'Taiwaness' or 'Chinese and also Taiwaness'. |
