Temeljni kapital (engl. subscribed capital, njem. Grundkapital) je upisani kapital od dioničara ili drugih osoba, što ovisi o pravnom obliku društva i utvrđuje se zakonom pojedine države. Upisani kapital može biti uplaćen u cijelosti ili djelomično. Ako je uplaćen samo dio kapitala, u aktivi se iskazuje potraživanje za upisani a neuplaćeni kapital kao prva ili četvrta pozicija bilance, a u pasivi upisani kapital se iskazuje odvojeno za uplaćeni kapital i kapital koji se poziva platiti.

Premda se ovdje temeljni kapital naziva 'subscribed capital', prema Glosaru bankarstva... MVPEI-a, 'equity' je "temeljni/vlasnički/dionički kapital"
