The muscle fiber is composed of smaller elements called myofibrils. Each myofibril contains two types of filametous subunits, one of which is thick and the other thin. These interdigitate in an overlapping array that produces a cross-striated banding effect, as revelaed by an electron micsroscope. Hvala!
