Here you´ll find the following concerning the theme:

Um die Anzahl der zu zeichnenden Elemente und damit die benötigte Rechenzeit zu begrenzen sowie gleichzeitig einen fließenden Übergang in den Hintergrund zu erzielen, werden Nebeleffekte oder Depth-Cueing eingesetzt. Beim Fogging wird die Farbe eines zu zeichnenden Elementes in Abhängigkeit von seinem Wert im Z-Buffer langsam nach Schwarz (oder einer anderen Farbe) übergeblende. Beim Depth-Cueing läßt die Intensitä des zu zeichnenden Elementes nach.

Dette tyske eksempelet kaller det nebel-effekt og depth cueing, tåkeeffekt eller "dybdevirkning".....
