English term or phrase: nurses (zie hieronder)
Ik ben een tekst aan het vertalen over een toestel voor peritoneale dialyse. De volgende zin zorgt (bij mij althans) voor heel wat verwarring: "The intended users for this product are registered nurses, registered practical nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians and care providers, as indicated by regional, state professional, legislative standards and/or facility policy."

Wat is het verschil tussen de drie "nurses" hierboven? "Registered nurses" zijn volgens mij "gediplomeerde verpleegkundigen". En "registered practical nurses", zijn dat dan "gediplomeerde hulpverpleegkundigen"? En wat met "licensed practical nurses"? Gewoon "hulpverpleegkundigen"? Van dergelijke zaken word ik knettergek!

Alvast bedankt voor jullie suggesties!

Dutch translation:gediplomeerde verpleegkundigen
Explanation:
There is nothing like a ’licensed practical nurse’ (Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Licensed_Practical_Nurse) in the Belgian or Dutch health system.

Good rules for medical translations:
- Translate the message, not the words
- Err on the safe side
- Inform the customer about necessary localization implemented in Translator’s Notes

Conclusion: Delete the ’licensed practical nurse’ (’registered practical nurses, licensed practical nurses,’ > ’ gediplomeerde verpleegkundigen,’)
