I've just received additional feedaback on your translation. I was told that "Dank je..is less formal (talking to your friends)" as compared to " Dank u (used to address older people)".
So your translation suits my needs perfectly well.

One could also use the impolite form of 'je' instead of the polite form 'u'. However in this context the word 'u' is probably more appropiate.
