Explanation: ...gaven een lezing...waarin ze niet te beroerd waren om de hielen van hun baas te likken Titi's answer goes into the right direction but 'stroop smeren' without mentioning the 'beard' of the boss, sounds -in my view- a bit weird :) Anyhow, you could also use (it all depends on the type of article/document you're translating): '...waarin ze niet te beroerd waren om hun baas op onbeschaamde manier te vleien' or '...waaruit duidelijk werd dat zij een voetje vóór trachten te hebben (of krijgen) bij hun baas' HTH |

opmerking 'titi' Explanation: hier hoeft er ook geen baard bij, maar is wel gebruikelijk. Daar de tekst evenwel voor een Nederlandstalig publiek bestemd is, denk ik dat je in zo'n geval best een alternatief gebruikt waarmee iedereen tevreden kan zijn :) |

om hun baas eens onbeschaamd in het zonnetje te zetten Explanation: is it really such a negative activity they indulge in? 'stroop smeren' (the 'beard' is typically Flemish) and worse 'hielen likken' have an awfully negative connotation maybe their boss simply earned to be praised 'in het zonnetje zetten' means to praise publicly, somewhat like 'putting someone in the spotlight' I added 'eens', 'for once', because of the unique opportunity this gathering may have presented |
