English term or phrase: Pot the white religiously!
Unfortunately it's all I have.
All I can say is what I wrote before. This must be a short sentence that should grasp the atmosphere of a man's bar with snookers, Cable TV and cocktails. It's a kind of club
cbosseaux
"Blousez religieusement la blanche" or "Empochez religieusement la blanche"
Explanation:
Ahaaaaa! I know what it is now! (Little light just came on. See it?)
"Pot the white" refers to putting the white ball into the pocket at billiard, snooker or pool. My husband, who plays snooker, tells me that only in billiard do you purposefully put the white ball into a pocket and that, only in certain games. I am a little confused on why they would want to "pot the white religiously"... But there you are...

"Blanche" stands for "bille blanche" or "boule blanche". You can use the full term if you wish, but they didn't in English, so I didn't in French.

It seems that "pot" is translated more accurately with "blouser" than "empocher". I am not quite sure of the difference, so I give you both.

"" Pot " (blousage)

You will find the rules of "billard" on the following site:

http://www3.sympatico.ca/eric.perreault/regle.html

You'll find the terms "empochement de la blanche" at some places on this site. This is the translation of "pot the white"

As the following demonstrate, pocketing the white is wrong and usually brings a penalty:
"Fautes :
1.Empocher la bille blanche "
http://perso.club-internet.fr/gott/reglespool.htm

Now, I am sure that you have learned more about snooker, billiard and the likes than you ever wanted to know! Good luck!

Contexte SVP

Explanation:

sorry

Explanation:
It took me quite a long time (about 45 minutes) to find all these references, phone my husband, and write my response. I thought of the meaning right after reading your last request and I set to work. I had not seen Nikki's response before I sent you mine. Honest! I see that she had the same idea as me at just about the same time. Telepathy? Sorry Nikki, I didn't mean to undercut you.

No need to make a public apology Louise!

Explanation:
Don't worry. I just looked it up in my dico to confirm what I though I remembered from my idle (!) student years. Your answer is much fuller than mine anyway. We're not going to worry about that! Anyway, always useful for the asker to have clear answers, especially where they concur !

Have a nice day eevrybody,

Nikki
