Explanation:
That is, "il ne trouvait plus le fil conducteur de la musique". You could also say, "la musique ne le portait plus" ou "il ne trouvait plus l'âme vibrante de la musique", but I think it would be good to use "conducteur" because it connotes 'drive' like the English.

Ici, par contre, je dirais 'n'arriva pas à retrouver son rythme' ou bien '... ne resentait pas la musique comme avant...'
