Je pense qu'il s'agit de la même tournure que dans l'expression populaire : "you'd be better of doin' this" tu ferais mieux de faire ça, littéralement "tu te trouverais mieux de faire ça".

Il me semblent que la clé réside dans l'opposition à "are afflicted by..." : "sont accablés par une bonne...", la voie passive est privilégiée : il s'agit de subir et non de décider, c'est pourquoi je préfère traduire par "ont plus de chance et s'engagent.."
