agree  Carmen Schultz: pathogènes is a good solution but the register is too high so microbes gets the idea and this is actually what appears in Cambridge for "bug" : microbe, virus

disagree  Stéphanie Soudais: un bug n'est pas une maladie, et "peste" est beaucoup trop fort//ok but the reader won't know that you mean "sthg like in the sense...". I disagree the words you suggest, not the explanation. "Maladie émergente" does exist, I don't know if it applies here
