In so far as a "pool" can be a "regroupement" things which are put together "mises en commun" or a "consortium".

Common vocab in insurance where various companies covering like risks in the same sector of any given market "club" together and create pools. This is certainly true of shipping insurance mutuals where pools have been created to which like companies make contributions from receipts from premia paid by shipowners etc. Monies thus collected are paid into a central fund and are used to cover risks which are beyond their individual capabilities. Such risks, eg SEA EMPRESS, ERIKA and so on can potentially cause so much damage (commercially) that no one insurer could possible cover what is almost an inestimable risk of damage. Pools such as these are covered by International Conventions.
