Explanation:
I really am having to guess here, based on extrapolation from my background knowledge of the biz.

No, if they are contrasting this 'line cut' in some way with the '9-camera' multi-camera studio shoot, the suggestion is that 'line' is being used in terms of a non-camera source — a 'line feed' of some kind, possibly a remote outside broadcast feed. This would be consistent with the use of a second, back-up feed, just in case something goes wrong with the first one!

Alternatively, 'line' might be referring to a local VTR, telecine, or other signal feed — anything that isn't a camera, in fact.

The 'cut' is the bit that puzzles me the most; normally, 'cut' describes an abrupt transition fcrom one image to another; but such a discussion of the transition seems out of place in this description. The only thing I can imagine is that this is some kind of jargon usage (with which I am not specifically familiar) intended to mean 'a source that can be cut to'

OK, so with the help of the Wiki ref. kindly provided by Marieln, I can now see that this is a US term that simply means 'live vision mixing' — the 'line cut backup' is presumably the isocam recordings that allowing vision mixing decisions to be revised in post.
