English to French translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Computers: Systems, Networks / PDA pour contrôle d'équipement de laboratoire
English term or phrase:power key
Dans le manuel utilisateur du PDA :
Turn the PDA power off by depressing the power button in the upper right of the PDA. Turn the *power key* ¼ counterclockwise, to the “OFF” position.
J'ai employé bouton Marche Arrêt pour "Power button". A votre avis, est-ce que je peux traduire "power key" par molette (sans répéter Marche/Arrêt) puisqu'il s'agit, si je ne m'abuse, du même bouton M/A ?
In my understanding, there are two different buttons. The power button would allow to quickly turn the device on or off while the power key in not in the off position. Turning the power key to off would lock the device off, the power button would be disabled until the key is turned to on again.
Hello Martin, thanks for your feedback. It seems that the flat button showed in the first photo you provided is the kind referred to in my document, so I do not think molette would be appropriate here. And lo, such a key is not usually translated as clé but as bouton!
Since the text refers to turning it (quarter-turn = 90 degrees), surely this can only be a key (clé, not touche), not a button? I would confidently assume that it is a key, similar to a door/cabinet key, which can be inserted/removed.
