English term or phrase: generator set
"Perhaps the most challenging of all is that our “customer” is actually a complex collection of people, each with different needs. That typically includes consulting engineers and electrical contractors (intermediaries), and building owners who are the eventual users of the ** generator set **."

GDT: "groupe turbine-alternateur"

Merci d'avance.

groupe électrogène
Explanation:
All proposed translations are correct. I support mainly your suggestion "groupe électrogène" as this does not specify, which technology is used. The other terms includes such items as "turbine", "alternator" or "motor", which leads perhaps in wrong directions. But may also be used, if it is clear that that technology applies.

Explanation:
(ou groupe motogénérateur), ... me dit mon gros dico. Et cela me semble bien plausible.

Bonne chance!
