The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) continues to wage a legal fight to try to get a proxy access proposal at the ballot at American International Group Inc. (AIG). A federal appeals court will hear oral arguments on Dec. 12. If the union prevails, it plans to file similar proposals at other companies next season, Richard Ferlauto, AFSCME's director of investment policy, told The Friday Report. "If you look seriously at majority voting and all the technical problems of what do you do with *** holdover directors *** and how do you force a director to resign if he or she absolutely refuses, that begs the question of how shareholders can really participate in the process, which gets us back to proxy access," Ferlauto said."
