Hi there,

Can anyone help with a better translation for the aforesaid expression ("kitchen-sinking exercise")?

Specific sentence is: "Banks are reluctant to do a real kitchen-sinking exercise and a limited proportion of the underlying losses have been reported"

Document deals with: market review (equity and credit markets) in the context of the subprime crisis, subsequent financial turmoil and the assets write-downs and losses recently reported by financial institutions around the world.

I got the idea but can't find a more synthetic solution.
French version proposed is: " Les banques ne semblent pas vraiment vouloir publier tous leurs mauvais résultats d’un coup pour faire croire à un scénario renouant obligatoirement avec des hausses à l'avenir ; seule une partie des pertes sous-jacentes a été publiée. "

Explanation:
"kitchen sink" fait partie d'une expression - everything plus the kitchen sink (il existe d'autres versions).
Par exemple, lorsqu'on prend énormémebnt de bagages avec soi, on dit - you've taken everything + the kitchen sink. Donc vous n'avez rien laissé derrière.

Kitchen-sinking exercise = donc, tout mettre dans le panier ou ailleurs sans rien laisser dehors.

Les banques hésitent à tout dévoiler (en encore)à d'un coup, et de ce fait ne publient qu'une partie......
