on dit "spin-off" (=dérivé)en français aussi pour parler de ces types d'entreprises.

Ne pas oublier les "spin-off products", qui sont les produits dérivés (ex : t-shirts Pokémon, alors que le produit d'origine est un jeu) : 'un sous-produit dérivé d'un produit existant et qui n'apporte aucune innovation particulière'.

Spin-off = when something is rotated or spun, a part of it is thrown off.

Our local industry, Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. has had several spin-offs over the last two years, and I asked them what word they use. They would say "compagnie dérivée".

They also told me that the expression "spin-off", can be translated by "retombée économique" or "retombées économiques", when you speak in more general terms.
