Explanation:
A "heat" is also a "manche", as in "round", but in this case I imagine they're talking about a qualifying round?

So I think épreuve éliminatoire is more appropriate?

I'm not sure if "heat winner" applies to practice "essais" or the race (la course" itself.

If it is practice prior to the race then Dominique's answer is quite correct, whereas if it is the race itself you'd be better off with

"Mika Hakkinen a été vainquer du GP Formule 3 de Macao."
