icône indiquant l'état de... (l'application, par ex.)

Explanation:
There may be a shorter, sweeter translation, but I don't know it. I hope you find this helpful in helping you to something better.

Icone indicateur

Explanation:
If pressing on the status icone you get a list of where things are at.
I would suggest that the icone gives you an account of where things are at= status
status= l'état des choses.
Therefore by pressing the icone you get an indication of the status.

Here "indicateur" would understate "indicateur de l'état des choses." Which of course is too long and unnecessary.

Good Luck

  -> erreur de frappe de ma part, c'est bien "icône d'état"

disagree  Dave Simons: L'orthographe de Stephie est correcte. P.S. noite to all non-EMT's: "software" is like "bread" - there's no plural.

agree  Connie Leipholz: oh, but there are always exceptions, like "sweet bs";I also know some who say "I have to wash my hairs"-just kidding
