English to French translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Petroleum Eng/Sci / Oil and Gas
English term or phrase:commissioning
In a résumé
-Commissioning, acceptance and start-up of new drilling contractor. Mod 4/5 inspection.
I need to know how to translate "commissioning" in this specific context. I found "mise en place", but I don't see, here, how "mise en place" can come before "acceptance".
here the “commissioning” done by the drilling consultant involves more than simply selecting a contractor on behalf of the oil company that's employing him, it includes also negotiating all the fine points of the contract, and probably also determining the selection criteria and the requirements of the contract before even starting the selection process. "choix du sous-traitant" might be a simplified view of his role, but is not wrong.
To make a parallel, if you're selecting a tour package for your own holiday, all you can do is "choose" between what's available on a "take it or leave it" basis. When you are working for a tour operator and selecting hotels and charters on behalf of few thousands individual tourists, you do far more than simply "choosing" - you're the one telling them what they have to offer if they want to be listened to. This consultant was more doing that, than simply "choosing" ready made offers.
Regarding the same plant you can have at the beginning of the project a "commissioning" of a feasibility study, and at the end of the whole process the "commissioning" of the finished plant/installation - definitively two different meanings of "commissioning".
What this Drilling Consultant was doing is similar to commissioning (healthcare services) as done by the NHS:
