neutral  AllegroTrans: I very much doubt whether this is referring to previous tenants as they would presumably have no connection with prospective tenants; I don't see your chain of reasoning and your confidence level is way too high for what appears to be only a guess

disagree  AllegroTrans: Nothing suggests that these principals are themselves liable for payment; they might be, but you cannot presume

  -> I do you translate ''thereof'' ?

disagree  Daryo: s.o. is s.o.'s "principal" when it gives instructions to s.o. - here it's any entity giving instructions about what to do to the tenant (= controlling the actions of the prospective tenant) - absolutely NOTHING to do with any kind of "obligation to pay"

prospective tenants and the principals thereof
les locataires potentiels et les entités qui les contrôlent

Explanation:
it's related to OFAC searches:

OFAC regulations prohibit transactions with certain persons and organizations listed on the OFAC website as "Terrorists" and "Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons," as well as listed embargoed countries and regions. Firms must check this list on an ongoing basis to ensure that potential customers and existing customers are not prohibited persons or entities and are not from embargoed countries or regions before transacting any business with them.

https://ofac.finra.org/#/

So in this context a "principal" would be any entity that has effective control over the prospective tenant.

not so blindingly obvious, apparently:

prospective tenants and the principals thereof
where
"thereof" refers to "prospective tenants"
=>
prospective tenants and the principals of prospective tenants

IOW there are TWO categories of persons/entities on which to conduct OFAC checks:

the obvious ones: prospective tenants

and the far less obvious ones: the principals of prospective tenants.

  -> "entities" can also control / be "the principal" of natural persons - I think this covers all variants. Thanks!
