I think it might be a typo. Could it be sallow tree = sea buckthorn = argousier (in French).

It's a shrub or tree with thorn giving the sort of oil described in one internet site dealing with "swallow thorn"; you can have a lookt at :

but I didn't find anything clearly telling Argan = Swallow thorn. Knowing the latin / scientific name or the origib would help.
