English to French translations [Non-PRO] Science
English term or phrase:grouper cod
Does anybody know the name of such a fish in French ? All I can find is
Grouper = mérou (généralement)
cod = cabillaud ou morue (généralement
and a lot of fish called
smth cod grouper, with no name in French
fish full of magnesium : mackerel, grouper cod, and sole
Explanation: Hello - it's possible there's a comma or a slash omitted between 'grouper' and 'cod.' I did find references to 'grouper/cod,' indicating the terms were interchangeable, one reference to 'blue cod grouper,' and some seafood specialty shop lists indicating that grouper can designate cod or trout. I also stumbled across a heated argument on whether or not a certain Pensacola restaurant was serving cod since there was a ban on fishing grouper in the Gulf. Hope this helps.
