English term or phrase: strawberry poison dart frog
latin name: dendrobates pumilio
shanti
Explanation:
An alternative to the above names was also found on this site, with a picture of the frog, which is described as: "Dendrobates pumilio. (http://www.clg.qc.ca/dep/bio/costa99/bosques.html)

Here are a few more different quotes:

(http://www.ac-reunion.fr/pedagogie/cohhoarau/dom-reu-guy/bfa...

"Le dendrobate fraise: Il mesure 1,5cm de long. Il vit en Amérique centrale." (http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:perso.libertysurf.fr/ke...

dendrobate fraise, grenouille "blue jeans"

Explanation:
I would avoid using just "dendrobate" as there are many types, this being a generic term.

For a photo (good one of the "blue jeans" nickname) expedition report, Costa Rica, see :
http://omega.clg.qc.ca/bio/costa99/bosques.html

- hence poison dart), see :
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/amazones/pgeographie.htm

For fun : list of frogs in latin and their German names, pour info, Erdeefrosche, strawberry frog), see :
www.amazonas.ch/raritaeten/raritaeten.shtml
www.wildsky.net/frogs/pumilio.htm

I would go for : grenouille "blue jeans" if your context can take it.
