Explanation:
il s'agit en fait d'un terme utilisé dans toutes les activités liées au vent, en particulier la voile et tout ce qui s'y apparente (la fauconnerie par conséquent). Le jargon dit "remonter au vent" (sailing upwind), cad aller dans la direction d'où vient le vent, à contrario de "descendre le lit du vent" (sailing downwind). Plus techniquement encore, un voilier ne peut physiquement pas remonter exactement dans la direction d'où vient le vent, et il est donc tjrs obligé de louvoyer (=faire des zigzags par rapport au degré 0 de la direction d'où vient le vent). Or les oiseaux utilisent les courants (d'air)/les vents pour se déplacer sans trop se fatiguer. En volant contre le vent (flying upwind), l'oiseau peut ainsi mieux planer, voire faire du surplace (effet de portance!). Les rapaces sont des champions en la matière (oiseau lourd, altitude=air froid=moins de portance, donc trouver les bons vents pour se fatiguer moins)!
