English term or phrase: slide (in "instructive slide presentation")
The "instructive slide presentation" is on CD (it's about some software products). Therefore, I don't think "diapositif" is the right word because "diapositifs" are projected on a screen or wall, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

French translation:diaporama

Thank you very much for your answer. Sorry for giving you points so late. In fact, the other answers were good, which is probably why I wasn't sure which one to choose and then forgot about that. I chose your answer because it was interesting to knwo the difference between "diapositif" and "diaporama".

diapositive

Explanation:
though it's right that diapositive are usually projected on a screen or wall, it's the term used in software environment. In PowerPoint for example, you've got "slide" in English and "diapositive" in French (I've got the French version).
By the way, it is diaposiTIVE and not diaposiTIF.
Good luck,

Agnès

Explanation:
Just to concur with RIOUAL and also to add that the abbreviated form, "diapo" (n.,f) is very commonmly used for "diapositive". (A slide show , for example, would be a "soirée diapos".)

Also :
- slide is also referred to as transparency, although in your context, I would expect to see "slide" being used
- colour slide = diapositive couleur
- slide projector / diascope = projecteur (pour diapositives)
