4.3 LONG TRAVEL GEAR ACCESSORIES (cont’d)

4.3.2 Storm Anchors (cont’d)

IMPORTANT

When the crane is “out of operation,” it is most important that all crane anchors are properly in their ground sockets and left in this position until the crane is put “into operation” again. This procedure will prevent the crane from being blown along the tracks which could cause collapse of the crane.

4.3.3 Buffers

The crane corners and the four crane end-stops are fitted with hydraulic buffers. These must always be kept in proper alignment, their binding bolts properly tightened. The moving parts should always be kept clean and free from any rust or grime.

4.3.4 Rail Sweepers

Rail Sweepers are provided on the outside end bogies. As the rail sweepers are of vital importance to the correct functioning of the rail clamps, it is important that they are inspected on a regular basis, checked for proper alignment and correct setting.

4.3.5 Earthing brushes

Earthing brushes are also provided and these must always be kept in proper adjustment and in good working order. They must be replaced when worn. The brushes ensure that the lightning path does not travel through the wheel bearings which would result in them requiring replacement.

4.3.6 Rocking beams

All wheelboxes are connected to the crane endcarriages via a rocking beam system. All the pin joints in these are fitted with bronze bushes. Regular greasing is required on all the grease nipples on the pin ends. Also ensure that all the pins and bolts, etc. are checked and kept secure at all times.
