English term or phrase: wind slits
Outdoor banners need relief from the wind. Cutting slits in the material allows wind to pass through without decreasing durability. We recommend one wind slit for every square yard of banner. Place wind slits at least one foot from the edges of the banner. Wind slits should be horizontal, crescent-shaped cuts, each about the width of your hand. Use a “wind slit cutter” from a banner supply shop or a sharp stanley knife to make the cut. For consistency, we recommend that you make a cardboard template using a compass, or use the edge of an appropriate sized bowl or can. To prevent tearing, reinforce both ends of each slit with a stitch. This does not guarantee against tearing in winds exceeding 40 mph (64 kmph). For performance guarantee coverage, follow all finishing guidelines
