English term or phrase: Quad shielding
Dear ProZ members,

I have the following sentence "Quad Shielding (foil and braid) for high-speed performance and error-free data transfer". The problem is rather on "Quad Shielding" than the rest. I understand that "foil and braid" refers to what makes up the the cable itself (tell me if I'm wrong), but I don't really know what the "Quad" is.

Thanks for your help

Patrick

quadruple blindage
Explanation:
There are 4 shields in whole around the data wires, at least two are mentioned explicitely:
"foil" is "blindage par feuille": conductive foil standard around the wires of the cable (foil may be aluminium, mylar, etc)
"braid" is "blindage par tresse": copper braid (tinned or not) around the whole cable (could be also around each wire, depending on the type of cable, microcoax uses this technique)

disagree  Tony M: From the way it is expressed in EN, I don't believe this to be the case --- though it was my first thought, too. But we do often talk about 'double screened/shielded' meaning 2 layers of screen/shield
