En fait, ça fait allusion à galago, animal africain.
Quand on parle du galago, on décrit son cri comme celui d'un enfant. c'est donc une référence croisée, s'il en est.

Je dirais donc "la respiration de Fatima évoquait le cri (ou le coinement) d'un petit animal tapi la nuit dans le bush africain", because parler du galago, ça ne dira rien à personne en Europe. Alors, autant adapter, avec un petit poil de poésie car ça va bien avec l'ambiance que dégagent ces quelques lignes EN.
