English term or phrase: "fourth wall bashing"
Hi all,
i completely fail to understand the meaning of "fourth wall bashing" in the following context:

"here I must add that I am determined to break that image of viewer and the ARTIST, because we all create the work together in a sense...the famous "fourth wall bashing" is crucial to me in the way we view theater, painting, all arts"

Any help is highly appreciated!
Best wishes, Silvia

Niederreissen der vierten Wand
Explanation:
The fourth wall is a term used in acting: it is an "invisible, imagined, or implied wall through which the audience sees the performance."
Fourth wall bashing refers to breaking down the barrier between the artist (actor/painter/etc.) and the audience/viewer/etc.
A translation I would suggest reads like this: "Hier muss ich hinzufügen, daß ich entschlossen bin, das Bild des Zuschauers und des Künstlers zu zerstören, weil wir alle das Werk zusammen schaffen...das berühmte "Niederreissen der vierten Wand" ist für mich entscheidend dafür, wie wir Theater, Malerei, alle Künste betrachten".

Cheerio,
Dierk

das Zertrümmern der berühmten Trennwand (zwischen Publikum und Künstler)

Explanation:
can't find this famous term anywhere.
I just imagine that viewers and artist(s) or artifacts are in different rooms. They could still communicate from three-walled rooms,
but the fourth wall seperates them completely.
Bashing is not demolishing, of course.
I prefer Abbau der berühmten Trennwand,
but that' not what it says either.
