English term or phrase: Now the polestar's red and burning...
"Now the pole-star's red and burning, and the witch'e's spindle's turning" - This is a quote found in a text by Arno Schmidt ("Nebenmond und rosa Augen"); the rest of the text is in German, so we suppose he quoted somebody else. Has anybody come across these lines and remembers where, or has an idea who might have written them? Many thanks!
