English term or phrase: perrier
This is the name of a type of catapult used in sieges in the middle ages:
"The perrier looks just like a smaller version of the Trébuchet, but instead of a counterweight, this catapult was powered by hand – men hauling on ropes to fling the arm up."
Does it stay the same in German? Many thanks!

German translation:kleine Steinschleuder
Explanation:
I'd suggest "kleine Steinschleuder" or maybe "Steinschleudergerät" (maybe even von Hand betriebene Steinschleuder) to preserve the distinction from Trébuchet (which is "große Steinschleuder" acc. to the following refs., or Steinschleudermaschine acc. to Muret-Sanders). Note, though, that Langenscheidt's F>D lists Steinschleuder = fronde or lance-pierres. (Nothing, however, on Pierrier on any German sites...)

You might want to follow the example of the references below and simply include the French term in parens.

Loading implements for pierrier
The implements used for pierrier were the same as for mortar, it was necessary to add baskets of 15 to 20 pouces in diameter by 20 pouces in high and wooden trays that had a slightly inferior diameter than the caliber of the pierrier, and at 10-15 pas behind the battery four dump wagons filled with stones to fill 60 baskets that were necessary for each pierrier.

The service of pierrier pieces required only three men, the sequences of firing maneuvres were similar that of mortar.

Hope this helps somewhat...
