This comes up in the profiles of investment professionals working for an asset management company. The entire sentence reads: "XXXX also spent one year as a Cadet Economist with the Reserve Bank of Australia."

I've tentatively translated as follows : "...Praktikum als angehender Volkswirt..."

Does anybody have a better idea? (Keeping in mind the relevant context, i.e. financial.)
