Bus/Financial
English term or phrase: commercial real estate, chief executive officer, chief operating officer, to ba
1.kommerzielles Bauwesen? Maklerwesen? Or something else?
2.I would like to ask translators with experience in Business/ Finance whether terms like chief operating officer are generally translated or not.
3.'The company is backed by...' I was thinking of 'mitgetragen'or 'unterstützt'. Is there a better alternative?

German translation:Immobilien; Generaldirektor; Gescheaftsfuehrer, Leiter derGeschaeftsfuehrung; Vorstandsmitglied
Explanation:
Real Estate is always Immobilien

CEO and CFO terms depend on the organizational structure of the individual company, for ex: a CEO may be a member of the Managing Board of Directors, therefore he would be a Vorstandsmitglied or the Supervisory Board (= Aufsichtsrat). If you do not know the organizational structure of the company, I think a safe bet is Leiter der Geschaeftsfuehrung or plain Geschaeftsfuehrer.

Hope that helps.

Explanation:

The translation of titles depends on company practice. Sometimes a translation is appropriate as Geschaeftsfuehrer, oberster Verwaltungsbeauftragter etc, but often, especially when it appears under the name rather than descriptive within the text, the original title remains. I had clients who even retain the ordinary title, i.e. a Japanese business man who had to be addressed as "Herr" because he ran the German operation.
Schaefer, Wirtschaftsenglisch, gives "finanziell unterstuetzen" for backing.

Explanation:
commercial real estate=gewerbliche Immobilien, selbst in den Gelben Seiten
habe ich diese unter "gewerblich" und
nicht "kommerziell" gefunden.
"to ba" could it be tba=to be announced
or dba=do business as--I did not quite
understand it without further context.
the company is backed by=die Firma ist
gedeckt durch, was soviel bedeutet, dass
die Firma finanzielle etc. Deckung besitzt . . .
CEO=ist eine mittlerweile gebraeuchliche
Abkuerzung, die vom Englischen uebernommen wurde, kann aber als
leitender Geschaeftsfuehrer, Vorstands-
vorsitzender, Leiter der Geschaeftsfuehrung etc. uebersetzt
werden (the translation depends on what
type of legal company i.e. corp. etc.
it is).

Chief Operating Officer=Hauptbetriebsleiter;

commercial real estate = gewerbliche Immobilien

Explanation:
CEO: You could leave it as is, but if you'd rather translate it, I would use (as others have already suggested) Vorstandsvorsitzender or (leitender) Geschäftsführer. The position of the CEO is also often combined with that of the President (i.e. "President and CEO"), in which case I would use Vorstandsvorsitzender.
The "Schäfer" advises against translating Chief Executive Officer. For Chief Operating Officer, it gives "oberste Führungskraft" or "Geschäftsführer", Chief Financial Officer = Finanzleiter. Whether you do translate those terms or not may also depend on your client's preferences, so you may want to check with them.

The company is backed by...: Depends on the context. If it's financial backing, I would use "finanziell unterstützt", otherwise may be "gestützt" or "getragen"
