English term or phrase: rise in line with II
If the Retail Price Index had risen only by the rate of inflation during 1998, what would it have been relative to the actual 1999 figure?

In einem ähnlichen Fragenkomplex erscheint obige Frage. Hier heißt es offensichtlich, dass der RPI um die Inflationsrate steigt. Wäre diese Interpretation nicht auch für den 1. Satz möglich, d.h. um die Inflationsrate von 1996 steigt?
