English to German translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Finance (general)
English term or phrase: on a sequential basis, on an incremental basis
Revenue of $253M was in line with expectations as data and voice revenue grew 17% and 9%, respectively, on a sequential basis.

On an incremental basis the company posted 64% incremental gross margin and 16% incremental EBITDA.

Es geht um den Finanzerfolg eines Unternehmens. Wie kann man hier "on a sequential basis" und "on an incremental basis" bersetzen?

Danke!!!

German translation:Unfortunately, I don't know the answer, but...
Explanation:
What difference does it make if this is a test translation or not?

I think a translator is entitled to use (and should use) any source of information at his/her disposal, including this website.

I don't think the company this test translation is for would care where the correct term came from. They would be more interested in the fact that the translator did his/her best to find out the correct term.

Diese Website ist doch wohl dafür gedacht, dass man sich gegenseitig helfen kann. Der Zweck ist kaum, andere Leute dazu anzuregen, Informationen für sich zu behalten.

Suggestion not to answer this request

Explanation:
Dear colleagues,

this request is part of a sample translation. Its result will decide who gets a large job.
I think that it is not fair play to ask other translators for help in such a case because the sample translation should measure ones own skills.
Therefore I suggest not to submit further answers. What do you think about this issue?

Nochmal: Bei dieser Probeübersetzung soll jeder dieselbe Chance haben. Welchen Sinn macht dann das Veröffentlichen der Lösung bzw. das Helfenlassen durch andere Übersetzer, wenn man es selbst halt nicht weiss?

So what!

Explanation:
I agree with Silke. It doesnt't matter that this information is needed for a test translation, otherwise the use of dictionaries or any other reference material would be excluded as well, since this does not consitute the "translator's own knowledge".

Explanation:
Just to add some comments: I didn't want to attack colleague Aicher. If this was the impression, it was wrong. He can get help from whereever he wants and that's fine for me.

But: Many translator received this test translation and many difficult terms later on appeared on Proz (more of them under the easy-section).
What sense does it make to invest time in a test translation if difficult terms are visible for anyone? No sense for the translator because everyone knows the terms and especially no sense for the agency because they won't get additional information about the translator's expertise (especially in this case where the only difficulty was to find out the meaning of financial terminology).

Some colleagues contacted me later on to give me their support on this issue (thanks again).

Again: No offense against colleague Aicher, he didn't "cheat" in my opinion, I just think it does not make sense to post terminology of sample translation.
