English term or phrase: Masters results
In einem britischen Lebenslauf hat jemand seinen Master (MA) absolviert und listed die einzelnen Master subjects auf und daneben stehen die results. Hier heißt es u.a.

1st
2:1
2:2
3rd
Distinction
Merit
Pass

Kann jemand die Results erläutern? Ist 1st das beste Ergebnis? Oder distinction? Was bedeutet z.B. 2:1 oder 2:2?

Vielen Dank.

First Class (1st) = 1,0
Explanation:
A first class degree is the best you can achieve!

British people would be proud to achieve a First or a 2:1 but are very unlikely to mention the grade on a CV if they get a 2:2 or a Third (3rd).

Note added at 9 mins (2005-12-21 10:44:18 GMT)
--------------------------------------------------

A First is anything over 70%
a 2:1 is 60-70%
a 2:2 is 50-60% and
a 3rd is just above the 40% pass mark

Note added at 11 mins (2005-12-21 10:46:07 GMT)
--------------------------------------------------

Distinction, Merit and Pass are similar grading systems with distinction being the highest and pass the lowest... but not a fail!

Unfortunately, the English and German marking systems are not directly comparable but I hope my above info helps clarify it a bit :-)

If it helps, the 2:1 is the most common grade
