Explanation:
Parameter prompt can, as so many IT terms, be left in English. It's the prompt that requests user input. Prompt is generally translated as Eingabeaufforderung, so you could also use a phrase like
Aufforderung zur Eingabe eines Parameters

Eingabeaufforderung, die; Subst. (prompt)

The InputBox() function prompts you for an entry, similar to a parameter prompt. Unlike a parameter prompt, you can use the InputBox() function outside of a query. We'll used the InputBox() function in the form

· The user usually enters a value to a parameter request prompt, and presses return.
· He can accept a default value presented between slashes at the end of the line by pressing return. These default options are often very helpful as the program will usually give sensible values, or remember the user's previous entries. In application examples given in this document the user should assume that a <return> has been entered to any prompt line ending with the > end of prompt sign.
· On VMS the user can edit a presented default value by pressing <TAB> in response to the prompt, whereupon the parameter system will reprompt with the default value presented so that the user can edit it.
· Each application has many parameters which tailor its behaviour. Some of these will take default values automatically and invisibly, thus avoiding the user having to respond to a long list of prompts. If the user wants to use different options or values from the default ones, he may assign new values to the parameters on the command line by specifying the parameter name and setting it equal to its new value. Thus for instance the type of background removal to be applied in BACKCRDD is defaulted to be uniform, entering the command
· backcrdd type=linear
would cause the program to be run with a linear background removal. Alternatively
backcrdd prompt
would cause all the parameters, including the normally hidden ones, to be prompted for.
· He can ask for help on any parameter by pressing ? in response to the parameter prompt.
· He can abort the application gracefully by entering !! to any parameter prompt.
