Bei 'The Openfilm Concept' wird unter Punkt 2 (2. What can I expect from Openfilm?) unter anderem auch Folgendes aufgeführt:
Prescreening, selection and custom encoding all submissions to preserve the highest possible quality
Und unter Punkt 6 (6. What is the recommended format and encoding to achieve the best quality on your site?) werden die empfohlenen Dateiformate und Codierungen aufgeführt.

In den Infos zum Hochladen (http://openfilm.com/corporate/uploading/) wird Folgendes ausgeführt:
'All 16:9 videos on Openfilm display at a resolution of 920x518. Videos that are 4:3 display at 690x518. If your video submission has lower resolution than this, it will be digitally magnified by us during the ***encoding process***, and while we do a careful job of preserving quality, it's no substitute for true high resolution. For best results, the video you upload should be at least 920x518 (for 16:9) or 690x518 (for 4:3) or larger.'

HIER gibt es eine gute Erläuterung für den Begriff 'video encoding':

Im Deutschen gibt es mehrere Begriffe dafür; manche bevorzugen den Anglizismus 'Video-Encoding', andere verwenden den Begriff 'Videocodierung': http://www.irt.de/de/themengebiete/produktion/audio-und-vide... Auf die Verwendung von 'Konvertierung' oder 'Umwandlung' würde ich in diesem Kontext eher verzichten.

Hier geht es - nach weiterer Recherche - um die einzelnen Codecs, und Codec ist ja selbst die deutsche Abkürzung für Coder/Decoder (im Englischen: encoder/decoder = ENDEC).

disagree  Irene Schlotter, Dipl.-Übers.: Bin überrascht - 'encode' im Sinn von 'übertragen' ist mir wirklich noch nie untergekommen ... Der Kontext hier jedoch ist ein völlig anderer - hier geht es nicht um die Übertragung, sondern die Umwandlung in andere Formate mit anderen Kenndaten.
