English to German translations [PRO] Law (general)
English term or phrase:events (please help untangle the sentence)
The Organiser shall not be liable for any delays, changes, cancellations, or any act or omission whatsoever by performers or *events* or by any form of transportation and/or accommodation included in the prize.
Der Organistor haftet in keiner Weise für Verzögerungen, Änderungen, Stornierungen oder jegliche Handlungen oder Unterlassungen ****by performers or events or by any form of transportation or accommodation included in the prize.*****
"any act or omission ... by events" macht meiner Ansicht nach keinen Sinn hier. Ich sehe mir den Satz schon eine ganze Weile an und finde die Struktur verwirrend, wenn nicht sogar grammatikalisch falsch.
I see your point. However, I think that the lawyer is thinking in the broadest sense, such as what I said below. The 'event' is peopled by behind the scenes workers who are NOT performers. If somehow some of these workers fail, it is the EVENT that failed
Thanks, JC :-) But if you strip this sentence to its bare bones, it reads:
The Promoter shall not be liable for any act or omission whatsoever **by performers or events**
An act or an omission *by* an event?
This doesn't make sense. Maybe I can't see the forest for the trees?

Explanation: Can't give you the German, but here in the USA, we usually have fireworks shows on the 4th of July. THAT would be an event and they are saying that, if it rains or the truck broke down so the explosives did not arrive, THEY are not responsible.
If they 'omitted' to put on their show, well, tough luck!

Explanation: I think this is regarding some sort of a force majeure - höhere Gewalt, as it seems the "events" could be something that the organisers have no influence over. It seems as though they want to generally exclude all liability for most potential occurrences, i.e. "events".

Explanation: Kann das sein, dass hier im Zusammenhang mit "performers" eine Bedeutung von "event", nämlich "Veranstaltung" gemeint sein und Sinn machen könnte?
"Event organiser" = "Veranstaltungsorganisator"!
