Explanation: "Legal for trade" is a certification sticker that is affixed to commercial scales after they have been calibrated and inspected by the state. This would correspond to "von einer staatlich anerkannten Prüfstelle geeicht". (Note that all household scales are also marked: "Not legal for trade".)
Purpose and Use of the Materials: The adhesive label, often called a sticker, and the seal inform the public about the status of scales according to the Weights and Measures Act. The Not Legal for Trade until Inspected label is placed on the indicator/readout of the scale. It is placed there when the scale is set up and operational but the government has not yet inspected it for certification.
The Tested seal tells consumers that a scale has been tested and approved by a scale service provider, in this case, Scaleco, Inc. Scale repairers place this seal on the scale, along with the Not Legal for Trade until Inspected sticker, when they test the scale but the government has not yet inspected it for certification.
What is a commercial scale?
In Minnesota, a commercial scale is defined as any scale used to buy or sell commodities or services for which the price is determined by weight. The Department of Public Service, Weights and Measures Division inspects commercial scales. If a scale passes inspection, the investigator attaches a dated approval sticker to the scale. The investigator rejects any commercial scale that is not accurate, not of commercial quality, or not suitable for its intended use.
Do not assume that a scale which has last year's approval sticker will pass inspection. Have a reputable scale company examine the scale before you buy it, or make an agreement with the seller before the sale about what will happen if the scale is rejected. www.dpsv.state.mn.us/docs/measures/pubs/scales.htm
