German translation:visuelle Medien & troy@proz.com
Explanation:
Troy at troy@proz.com should be able to help you.

First of all, let's straighten out the "Sehhilfe" mess. The second NODE definition for "visual aid" is indeed, as Mats suggests, a "Sehhilfe" = "a device to improve vision, such as a magnifying glass or glasses." I have a "Sehhilfe" on my nose right now, but I can see clearly, with or without my reading glasses, that they are not what Tom means. Tom is after the first NODE meaning "an item of illustrative matter, such as a film, slide(s) or model, designed to supplement written or spoken information so that it can be understood more easily."

The term "Anschauungsmaterial" is confusing for me although it is in my Duden-Oxford and Ernst. Does all "Anschauungsmaterial" remain in the training room after the training is finished? If so, then the translation is OK. If the learner can take it home with her/him, it is a "handout" and not a "visual aid". These sites makes the difference clear because both terms are used together:

I like "visuelle Medien" as used at these German language sites:
