I didn't want to create the impression that any of the two suggestions actually is the correct translation. I didn't find any correct translation, but I found more texts that seem to indicate that it is not Maschinenger�usch either.

Ja, das Maschinenger�usch habe ich auch, ich wusste nur nicht, ob das mit dem "to and fro" zusammenpasst - Maschinenger�usch kann ja schlie�lich ganz unterschiedlich klingen! :-)
Mehrere meiner Quellen geben "Maschinenger�usch" als Alternative f�r das "neutralere" systolisch-diastolisches Ger�usch an, also eher als Oberbegriff.

Dorland's Dictionary f�hrt allerdings "to-and-fro murmur" separat von "machinery murmur" auf, w�hrend das "seesaw murmer" einen Verweis auf "to-and-fro" hat...
And another site, which I can't open, has:
... bellows murmur ( = to and fro murmur), نَفْخَةُ الكير ...
machinery murmur ( = Gibson murmur),
So it looks like the English is not quite clear about the distinctions either! :-)
Und auf "to-and-fro"/"seesaw"/"bellows" vs. "machinery"/"Gibson" bin ich vorher schon gesto�en.
Also ich bin noch nicht ganz �berzeugt, dass "machinery" und "to-and-fro" identisch sind.

vielleicht bedeutet dies ja, dass im Deutschen diese Unterscheidung nicht gemacht wird...

vielen Dank, aber "systolisch-diastolisches Ger�usch" ist der Oberbegriff f�r "continuous murmur". Aber wie des Satz oben besagt, unterscheidet sich das "to and fro" Ger�usch vom "echten" systolisch-diastolisches Ger�usch.
