English to German translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical: Cardiology / heart murmurs
English term or phrase: to-and-fro murmur (aka seesaw murmur)
Unlike “true” continuous murmurs, “to and fro” murmurs have a definite silence between the systolic and diastolic phases.

Description of heart murmurs.

I found the French translation, "bruit de va-et-vient". :-)
Can anyone help me out with the German translation?

systolisch-diastolisches Geraeusch

This is the term I found in my medical dictionary. Also listed is Perikardreibegeraeusch. I hope this is useful.

In meinem Woerterbuch stand der Begriff bei beiden und auch bei \"seesaw murmur\". Tut mir Leid, dann weiss ich es auch nicht.
Viel Glueck!

Tja, das kann leicht sein. Bin mir aber nicht sicher wie mann das am besten rausfindet. So wie ich das sehe ist es im Deutschen die geleiche Bedeutung. Hat sonst noch jemand einen Tip?

If the ductus fails to close normally, a loud to-and-fro murmur will result (the so-called "machinery murmur"). Very young patients with heart or lung disease may need to have the ductus repaired to prevent too much blood from flowing back from the high pressure side of the circulation - the aorta. This lesion also places an older patient at some risk of bacterial endocarditis, so ordinarily the patent ductus is surgically tied off.
