Or: Eine Tasche blieb stehen (or blieb liegen)
According to new German spelling, the infinitives and participles would be stehen bleiben - stehen geblieben / liegen bleiben - liegen geblieben (2 words), under the old spelling, infinitives and participles would be written as one word.

If it's a handbag, or a paper shopping bag, i.e. something that's stiff enough to stand on its own, you'd use "stehen bleiben".
If it's a soft bag such as a plastic shopping bag, a lunch bag, or a very small handbag that lies on its side, you'd use "liegen bleiben".

And for a shopping bag or a lunch bag, you'd use "Tüte" rather than Tasche.

Ah, the intricacies of the German langugage... so it's really not quite as self explanatory as you might think it is :)

Explanation:
I agree with all the others but my question is wether or not it is really a tasche. I guess one would need more context but it could very well be a suitcase. Like I said it depends on the situation!!
