English term or phrase: flip on his ear
Should mass-market licensed software one day be a thing of the past, there's no time like the present to consider the ramifications on everything from your careers to your IT strategies to your existing relationship with solution providers. If the industry eventually flips on its ear in this way (admittedly, a big if), it may take a while to play out because a lot of software companies will kick and scream as they get dragged into the new world order.

It is about big upcoming changes in the IT industry. What does the part 'If the industry eventually flips on its ear in this way' mean?? Thanks alot!!!

Explanation:
Better known as the passive ‘to get flipped on one’s ear’ but still not an expression to be found in any dictionaries I’ve come across - however there are around 20 google hits for ‘flipped on its ear’.

It broadly means ‘turned upside down’, ‘knocked sideways’, ‘knocked for six’, ‘keel over’, etc as a result of outside influences.

Umkippen, Umschlagen, umkrempeln, umwerfen, umstoßen
Über den Haufen werfen, auf den Kopf stellen

Here, I would suggest something like:

Wenn die IT-Branche sich schließlich dieser Entwicklung nicht länger widersetzen kann, ...

Wenn der Trend in der IT-Branche schließlich in diese Richtung umkippt ..

hope it helps
