so alt wie die Zeit (selbst) Explanation: Obviously, this is Chronos of Greek mythology - a god, not a goddess. However, since time is feminine in German, you cannot just translate the expression, which is probably your reason for asking. (You can say "Vater Staat", because Staat is masculine) My above suggestion is based on the expression "so alt wie die Menschheit selbst" - as in this example: Ihre humanistischen Ideale sind so alt wie die Menschheit selbst. Vaters Generation Explanation: somebody looks like out of the last generation? = Der/die sieht aus wie aus Vaters Generation. But that would be Father's times. alternative: he looks as if he wants to play father = hier kommt jemand, der Vater spielen will, eg. talk boys-talk HTH |
