English to German translations [Non-PRO]
English term or phrase: translators: lack of self-confidence
it is time you wake up translators and act as mature people; not as a bunch of children at a jardin d`enfant show. when this site pursue askers to choose a winner it is not helping you as much as stamping you with a need to prove yourselves seal. if you need to prove yourselves after all your previous years of expertise _ as you claim_ you are not considered qualified. This is an immature tricky issue which ought to be discussed maturely.

I think you may need our help ...

Explanation:
Your English does not sound all to great!
What languages do you translate from?

The primary reason we all participate in KudoZ, is because we can learn from one another. The sources mentioned by my peers, the dictionaries they quote as sources, and the Google sites they find to answer my questions, are invaluable to me in doing my work. And that is besides the questions that they help me to answer. On top, it's sometimes just fun to argue about the finer points of an interpretation.

Think about it!
Maybe you need help?
And maybe you can help someone.

And what are you?

Explanation:
Where is the maturity hiding behind "no name? Where the self confidence? Only people not sure about themselves don't dare to show themselves. So you must be someone, being afraid of the reactions or us, the translators, because you know or at least you've got an idea, what you are: a person too scared for being honest. Better get some help in getting mature and self-confident. Perhaps next time in criticising something or somebody you are able and hopefully mature enough to say who you are and what's your point. It seems you didn't understand at all what's going on here and why. So next time, think before writing! Katharina

I enjoy this feature.

Explanation:
Reason:
I learn a lot from the other translators.
It is fun.
It is good to know that someone out there might be willing to help with a translation question.
Last, but not least, it is O.K. that very knowledgeable people get credit for sharing their expertise with others.

This is not maturity

Explanation:
It's not even the beginning of maturity - but maybe the end of immaturity.
Knowing better than everybody else - isn't that a gorgeous feeling!
If you start participating intstead of soaring up there in your celestial superiority you'll discover that we poor souls down here pursue quite an edifying activity: Exchanging knowlegde, evaluating sources of knowledge, having quite a lot of fun and thereby helping those in need of help with a term that puzzles him/her. Even the scorned translation 'I love you' may help someone in dire need.
Meanwhile we all build a glossar that will be a goldmine for translators.

All this is not worth to be a part of?

Global Village

Explanation:
Isn't it wonderful? I am stuck with a term at 1am and someone on his or her lunch break on the other side of the globe takes the time to help me with it. And vice versa.

What's wrong with that? Nothing! It indeed IS wonderful!

For once people from all over the world, regardless of their nationality or race, work together instead of working against each other (with a few exceptions as your posting shows).

If you have a problem with this - well, I do not think that you are being forced to use this service, or are you?

With regards to the anonymous character of your posting and the issue of "maturity" I agree with the postings above.

I just wonder who will be awarded the points for this one...

Where is your problem?

Explanation:
I agree with all the above answers. Noone is forcing you to use this site and if you don't need (or want to give) help/support then you are must be part of a different species of translator to the ones I know (and like).

I only found this site today and am fascinated by the support being given. I will definitely be back and who knows maybe I might even get some points one day... Life is serious enough annd a bit of fun thrown in never hurt anyone (but I guess there are exceptions to prove every rule).
